DIVIDING BY 5
In the last lesson we learnt that how to multiply any number by 5,25,50.., when we multiply that number that time we add required zero and halve the number . Multiply and divide are two opposite operation so, now we use doubling here and put decimal point on required place
85 ÷ 5 = 17.
So 85 is doubled to 170, and dividing by 10 gives 17.
665 ÷ 5 = 133
since 665 doubled is 1330.
73 ÷ 5 = 14.6.
Similarly here double 73 is 146, and dividing by 10 gives 14.6.
Practice A
Divide by 5:
a 65 b 135 c 375 d 470 e 505 f 4005 g 1235 h 7070 i 885 j 49 k 52 L 22.2
DIVIDING BY 50, 25
Since 50 is half of 100 dividing by 50 involves doubling and dividing by 100.
Find 750 ÷ 50=?
Doubling 750 gives 1500, and dividing this by 100 gives 15.
So 750 ÷ 50 = 15.
54.32 ÷ 50 = 1.0864.
Doubling 54.32 gives 108.64, and dividing by 100 gives 1.0864.
Simple Note:-
when you divide any number by 5 then double the number and put decimal point one number before from right = 453÷5= 90.6
when you divide any number by 50 then double the number and put decimal point two number before from right = 453÷50= 9.06
when you divide any number by 25 then double the number twice or multiply by four and put decimal point two number before from right = 453÷25= 18.12
Find 425 ÷ 25=?
Doubling 425 gives 850, and doubling this gives 1700.
Dividing by 100 then gives us 17. So 425 ÷ 25 = 17.
Practice B Divide by 50:
a 650 b 1250 c 3300 d 8.8 e 44 f 77
Practice C Divide by 25:
g 225 h 550 i 44 j 137 k 6 0.24
