DIVISIBILITY TEST FOR 11 KEY- ALTERNATE DIGITS STEPS- •
Take sum of alternate digits of a given number. There are two sets of alternate digits and hence there will be two sums. • Find the difference between two sums. • If the difference is zero or divisible by 11, then the given number is divisible by 11.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) 9482
9 4 8 2
STEP 1-Two sets of alternate digits 2,4 AND 8,9
STEP 2- Take their sums 2+4=6 AND 8+9=17
STEP 3- Take difference between sums 17-6=11
Since 11 is divisible by 11, the given number 9482 is divisible by 11.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 ) 74,162
7 4 1 6 2
2+1+7=10 ; 6+4=10 10-10=0; Hence 74,162 is divisible by 11.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) 56,976 5 6 9 7 6
6+9+5=20 ; 7+6=13 20-13=7 7 is not divisible by 11, hence 56,976 is not divisible by 11.

NUMBER SUM OF ALTERNATE DIGITS SUM OF ALTERNATE DIGITS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUMS DIVISIBLE BY 11
451 1+4=5 5 5-5=0
506 6+5=11 0 11-0=11
91828 8+8+9=25 2+1=3 25-3=22
849957393 3+3+5+9+8=28 9+7+9+4=29 29-28=1 In a three digit number, when sum of unit’s place and hundred’s place is equal to ten’s place digit, then the given number is divisible by 11.
